Protect Access to Noninvasive Ventilators

On March 13, 2019, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced its decision to add noninvasive home ventilators (NIV) to the Competitive Bidding Program. Please take a moment to ask your representative to sign on to a “Dear Colleague” letter (see it here) to Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar and CMS Administrator Seema Verma that is being circulated by Reps. Morgan Griffith (R-VA) and Peter Welch (D-VT).

People with ALS are fragile and most die of respiratory failure. NIVs provide essential life support and allow people with ALS to receive care at home from loved ones. Adding noninvasive home ventilators to competitive bidding will result in situations where life-threatening lapses in breathing occur for people with ALS. Patients who require these home ventilators should not have to rely upon the lowest bidder to receive the life-sustaining complex services and equipment necessary to remain in their homes and out of institutional settings.

Below we have prepared a letter that we would like you to send to your members of Congress. Please review the message below and hit 'Send All Messages" to act now!
